The MEDS Modernization project’s (MEDS Mod) purpose is to modernize the Medi-Cal Eligibility Data System (MEDS) to enhance California Health and Human Services Agency business needs. MEDS Mod is a multi-departmental initiative, which is jointly sponsored by the Department of Health Care Services and the Department of Social Services. MEDS Mod is collaborating with key stakeholders and following the State's Project Approval Lifecycle process.
The Department of Health Care Services (DHCS), within the California Health and Human Services Agency (CHHS), is the single state agency responsible for the administration of California's Medicaid Program known as Medi-Cal, which provides health care services to more than 13 million beneficiaries. The Medi-Cal Eligibility Data System (MEDS) was originally designed to support the state’s Medicaid program (i.e. Medi-Cal) claim processing functions, as part of its Medicaid Management Information System (MMIS). The initial purpose was to consolidate all eligibility data from the county eligibility determination systems, into a single repository to support accurate claim payments. MEDS has become a statewide data hub serving a variety of eligibility, enrollment and reporting functions specific to Californians receiving Medi-Cal and other state and federal benefits, including but not limited to Every Woman Counts, Child Health and Disability Prevention, Breast and Cervical Cancer Treatment, SNAP, TANF, In-Home Supportive Services, adult protective services, and child welfare.
The MEDS Modernization project (MEDS Mod) was initiated to modernize MEDS to enhance CHHS business needs. MEDS Mod is a multi-departmental initiative, which is jointly sponsored by the Department of Health Care Services and the Department of Social Services.
